The Princess of Wales's Yearly Christmas Musical Celebration Spotlights Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with a congregation comprising royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will hear a blend of carols, music and readings from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Compassion and Love

The theme of the service, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a letter ahead of the concert.

A Gradual Return

The princess has been making her own gradual return to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to budding artists aided by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the former royal to widen access to instrumental training.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the charity, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Within the audience will be people from various age groups.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by television on December 24th.
