Female Suspect Evades Police Following High-Velocity Pursuit from California into Mexican Territory
A female individual previously residing at a women’s sobriety home in California allegedly took a stolen van and engaged in a prolonged police chase culminating with her traveling across the border into the nation of Mexico on Monday.
Auto Theft Discovered from Recovery Residence
According to a law enforcement announcement, a second woman, Nicolle Walters, 45, notified authorities that her 2004 gray Toyota Sienna was stolen, along with her vehicle key. Walters, who operates two women’s sober living homes, named the alleged thief as Alyssa Wilson at Diana’s House Sober Living, located approximately 60 minutes north-west of LA.
“The keys were stolen out of my house manager’s purse. I happened to pull up right when it was happening,” she said, adding that the vehicle is used for the facility’s daily operations.
Dramatic Chase Unfolds Across Several Regions
Officials located the stolen vehicle about 12 miles to the north in Simi Valley, where they tried to pull the vehicle over, but Wilson did not comply and accelerated rapidly. She reached speeds of about 90mph on the State Route 118 until the chase proceeded into LA County. At that point, local sheriff’s deputies handed over the pursuit to the California highway patrol once Wilson entered the 405 freeway traveling southbound.
“This one is very unique in the sense of the road situation allowing drivers to persist on the freeway and prolong this chase,” said a public information officer from the local law enforcement agency.
The suspect reportedly dodged all the tire-deflation devices tossed on the roadway by police, as documented in aerial videos.
Cross-Border Escape and Aftermath Developments
The chase finally arrived at the international border by 1.30pm, prompting the highway patrol to terminate the chase due to jurisdictional constraints.
Walters stated on the following day that the vehicle was located in the Mexican city of Tijuana and that she was working with the authorities to recover the vehicle.
“Ultimately, I’m not worried about the vehicle,” she remarked. “I’m relieved aware she was not injured. The minivan is replaceable.”
Owner’s Perspective
The sober living home owner, who has operated Diana’s House Sober Living since October 2024, recognizes that the journey toward sobriety from substance abuse and trauma is often non-linear.
“This is a psychological and substance abuse crisis,” Walters emphasized. “There is a need for more support. We need more resources for those that are struggling.”
“Recovery can be messy,” Walters concluded.
